The Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges are the occupational standards which were initially developed during 1995 and embedded within the 1997 National Guidelines on the Provision Leading to the TQ(FE) and Related Professional Development. These initial standards were expanded and reformatted during 2006. The review carried out in 2006 was extensive, robust and of high quality as a result the Professional Learning and Development Forum (PLDF) had no hesitation in agreeing that a small scale refresh of these standards should be carried out during 2011.
As well as updating the general content and terminology where required the refreshed standards should reflect recent developments in, for example Sustainable Development and Curriculum for Excellence.
The survey has now been completed and we have received a very good response from all colleges. The evaluation of the responses will now inform the refresh of the standards. We are grateful to all who completed the survey.

Challenge Question
The following challenge question has been posed to gather information that will assist us to look forward to the role of a lecturer heading towards 2020. We would like those who contribute to think of skill sets required by a lecturer and also how we enable them to be responsive to current and ongoing educational intiatives such as Curriculum for Excellence, promoting equalities and embedding topics such as sustainability, enterprise and other educational priorities.
What do lecturers need to do to prepare for their role in 2020?

Thank you for accessing this link to the Challenge Question which has been posed as part of the Refresh of the Professional Standards for Lectuers in Scotlands College. We encourage as many people as possible to contribute to the debate which will inform future developments of the standards.
